"Art of Genius" by the King of Cognacs, Louis XIII, is a concept that was designed as an auction lot for the recent AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction. This event brings together art and artistry in an unique, immersive experience.

Each decanter of Louis XIII is carefully crafted from 1,200 eaux-de-vie, by four generations of cellar masters. It is a veritable work of art. To illustrate this Louis XIII has collaborated with Chef Harald Bresselschmidt from Aubergine and the Goodman Gallery to create the "Art of Genius" – a thought provoking series of five food, cognac and art installations that engage and stimulate all of the senses in the appreciation of the maturation of Louis XIII over 100 years – the touching, tasting, smelling, feeling, and seeing journey of a century in a bottle.

Harald Bresselschmidt will reflect each of the five evolutionary flavour profiles with his own culinary interpretation of its evolving character; from the young Louis XIII to the 20, 40, 70 and 100 year old legendary cognac.

This year the Auction raised R15 million for the Cape Wine Auction Trust, which will channel the funds to training for underprivileged children in the Cape Winelands. The "Art of Genius" raised R200 000 for the Trust and will be presented to the winning bidder and nine guests at the prestigious Goodman Gallery.
